The Academic Advantage program at Indianapolis Oral Surgery & Dental Implant Center provides middle school and high school students with the tools they need to succeed in a career in dentistry or medicine. Students interested in a career in the healthcare field can gain valuable insights into the process of becoming a dental or medical professional, from preparations to make in high school to undergraduate and graduate school admissions information.

Planning ahead is the best way to ensure students have the knowledge and support they need to pursue a career as a dentist, doctor, or other medical professional. Students looking for reliable information about these careers should RSVP for our upcoming session.

We’ve brought together speakers from the dental and medical fields as well as college admissions experts to provide a broad range of information regarding the related careers. The list of speakers includes educational counselor Amy McVeigh; Associate Director of Community Relations and Outreach at Indiana University - Bloomington’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions, Khala Granville, MD; oral and maxillofacial surgeon Dr. Lawrence G. Falender; and Dr. Dane Uhl, practicing dentist at German Church Road Family Dentistry. Together these professionals have a wealth of information to share with aspiring healthcare students.

Who Is Dr. Lawrence G. Falender?

Dr. Lawrence G. Falender, DDS, is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon who has completed dental school as well as an extensive hospital-based surgical residency. He is also an associate professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Indiana University School of Dentistry. This experience has given him an extensive understanding of the application process for dental school. He also has years of experience working in hospitals as well as his own private practice, Indianapolis Oral Surgery & Dental Implant Center, which provides him an even broader understanding of the lifestyle and expectations of medical and dental professionals.

Dr. Falender will discuss the entire process of becoming a dental professional at length, and he will be available to answer any student questions after the session. Giving students the tools and information necessary to explore their interests and follow their passions is crucial to their overall success, and the Indianapolis Oral Surgery & Dental Implant Center team is proud to help students through these educational sessions.
