It’s official: September is Self-Improvement Month! Many people decide to take on this month as a personal challenge to improve or change their overall personal health and appearance. All of us here at Indianapolis Oral Surgery & Dental Implant Center want to share some of our favorite tips for better oral health and overall well-being to help you live a happier life and smile more!
Reduce your stress. Stress is a major problem for millions of people in the United States. Stress affects both your mental and physical health, but did you know it can affect your oral health as well? Excess stress can cause you to grind your teeth and bite your nails, which can seriously damage your teeth. Stress is also a main source for poor food and drink choices, like drinking too much soda or coffee and eating sugary foods. This month, try to find some time for yourself by exercising! This is an excellent and healthy way to reduce stress. Can’t exercise? Try to take up another hobby like gardening or reading every day. Too busy? Even just a few minutes of deep breathing exercises every day can really help you clear your mind and manage stress levels.
Assess your dental routine. Now is the perfect time to re-evaluate your daily routine and make sure you are taking care of those pearly whites! How much do you brush your teeth? Do you maintain regular, twice-a-day brushing? Are you brushing a full two minutes every time? Are you flossing every night? We all know that it is important to floss and brush, but it’s easy to get lazy, especially in September when our routines are getting more hectic with school starting and the holidays quickly approaching. These preventative measures are crucial for oral care and avoiding future oral health problems. Find an extra five minutes to spend on your oral health—you will not regret it!
Smile more! Stressed out at work? Are you feeling down that summer is over? Try to smile more. Smiling has been shown to decrease stress and naturally improve mood. Smiling also improves the mood of those around you, and seeing the people you know and love smile back at you can further boost your mood and self-esteem.
Not confident in your smile? Being more confident and embracing your smile is a great way to improve this September. If you feel that it’s time to make a change, contact our office at 317-900-4569 to learn more about some of the restorative options we offer, such as dental implants.
